Which is better, solid wood flooring or something else?

solid wood flooring Add comments

it depends what you are looking for, and what are your constraints.

I don’t like at all carpeting – very difficult to clean, but is a relatively cheap solution. I prefere if at all possible a wood floor with a carpet – can be cleaned and changed at minor expense.
However carpeting is great in a bedroom.. but not in a hot climate.

In a hot climate I would go for tiles / stone floors (marble, if you can!!!), as it is sooo cooling that in the end you save money in the air-co.

With solid wood beware of humidity: it warps and fissures with changes in the air, and it can get quite nasty if not put down properly.

Laminate has the advantage of being low-cost and high resistance: to use for renting property.

I like solid wood flooring, it’s pretty and you don’t have to own a vacuum. However it’s so cold. Carpet will keep out the cold a whole lot better.

I dont like wood floor, too hard on the feet, carpet’s better. We had lino in the kitchen that looks like real wood and everyone is stunned when we tell them it’s lino.

    Question is too vague.

Although I do think laminate flooring is a fad that will be seen to be very old fashioned before long. Anything that is fashionable must, by nature of the word, become unfashionable at some stage.

Yes solid wood looks good but then you need a nice mat and you can wash the floor as well and no dust mite go for it .

I thought for ages about how to renovate my house and I decided for laminate.

If you get a good one, it does not look different from real wood. But it is usually much stronger and more reliable than real wood (and cheaper). Just try to walk on wooden floors with high heels and you might see the result.

I prefer wooden flooring, it shows up the dirt that you can’t see if you have carpet..

Solid wood is good although expensive but you could use reclaimed wooden boards. This can be labour intensive as you have to remove nails and clean them etc. You can also sand a solid wooden floor, which you can’t with a laminate, if you need to remove stains or keep up the appearance. You can always puts rugs on wooden floors to help keep feet warm or lay underfloor heating which can be more cost effective in the long run and looks nicer than radiators.
