I can’t tell…never had any kind of wood flooring before, but would like something similar. Can you tell the difference between real wood and wood laminate floors?

That’s a wood laminate floor. It’s a nice one though. I’ve seen some that look like junk, but this one looks good. Hope this helps.

What product can I use to seal crack between wood planks in real wood flooring?

real wood flooring 2 Comments »

We moved into a flat that has beautiful real wood floors, but between each plank is a gap of 1 – 2mm which just collects dust and small particles and makes the flooring not look as good as it should. What product can I use to seal the gap and enhance the flooring?

They make caulks and fillers to do this in matching colors but they may stand out and show more than the cracks do now.
Have you check or had checked the humidity level in the place? Most often this is a cause. The boards can be dry and shrunk and having the correct humidity will have the boards " re swell".

laid in house next week
how do I care for it to keep it looking good

Depends how precious you want to be about it. Obviously you don’t want girlies walking in in their stilletoes or the kids bikes etc. But I find that a weekly sweep or vacuum followed by a wash with a well wrung out mop does the trick. We’ve had ours for about a year now and it still looks great.

Beautiful. Classic. Durable. HSW Floors specializes in the installation of authentic Hand-Scraped Wood Floors in the North Texas area. Hand-Scraped Wood Floors typically start as solid unfinished 3/4″ Red Oak then are finished by hand to create a unique, distressed texture which is reminiscent of antique wood floors in Old World Europe. Truly an icon of American style and durability, hand-scraped wood floors offer unique advantages and work well with many Interior Design styles. While there have been prefinished imitators of hand-scraped wood floors, consider the real thing. You might be surprised by the reasonable price. With proper maintenance, real wood floors will last for 100 years or more. That’s right! 100 years.
If you’re thinking about an upgrade in your home to wood floors, consider the American original: solid wood floors. And for that classic one-of-a-kind hand-scraped finish, consider a company that has Hand Scraped Wood Floors in their name, HSW Floors.

Is laminate flooring better than real hardwood?

real wood flooring 5 Comments »

I’ve been told than real wood flooring needs a lot of work to keep it up and laminate doesn’t – plus laminate is cheaper. What’s the REAL deal?

Nothing beats the look and feel of real hard wood. But it IS expensive and harder to maintain. Luckily it ages well and you can embrace the character of scratches and dents.

BUT if you cannot afford hardwood or don’t want to deal with the maintenance, spend the money and get a higher quality laminate. It will look better and hold up better than a cheap one. Amtico has a beautiful collection called Spacia. It’s beautiful and holds up well enough to be used in commercial spaces.
http://www.amtico.com/Home/UK/Spacia?psvnv=2&psvbr=4&fcpm=psv
Heres the link. It’s availble in the states as well as the UK. Check it out. It’s WELL worth the money. This is the laminate I would use if I wasn’t going to go with real hardwood.

You may also looke into bamboo or cork flooring. Both are beautiful options.

Good luck and best wishes. Hope this helped.

Tips wanted for laying a real wood floor?

real wood flooring 8 Comments »

I am (against my better instincts) going to be attempting to lay a real wood floor. What is the best or easiest way to secure way this – glue, nail, self adhesive underlay? Also, is it necessary to remove the skirting boards? Any other tips are welcome!!!!

For a real wood floor (as opposed to laminate which is easy to fit) I’d get a man in. If you muff it up it’ll look horrid and will be really expensive to fix.
It may seem like a lot of expense but you’ve probably shelled out quite a bit on the flooring, you wouldn’t want to ruin it.
